Hola:

Is lunch on the 12th with Andy's parents OK with you? They live not too far away from the hotel and are very interesting people. Andy's dad is a diplomat and a gourmet cook.

Okay, let's make it the 12th with my folks in Cleveland Park. It'll have to be for lunch though because I just learned that my dad's flying out of town Monday. Will that work for you guys? I'll talk to them and get back to you with a time.

The Library of Congress is a nice idea. If I remember correctly, they have a neat cafeteria on their roof. So does the Kennedy Center. Also, I think the National Portrait Gallery is supposed to have some nice cafes.

If you spend the night downtown in Baltimore, take a water taxi across to Fell's Point for dinner. I like Bertha's. You should go there for a drink at least.

Have you thought about going to Mt. Vernon? You can take a boat there from the Alexandria waterfront. It'd also give you guys an excuse to come in and explore Old Town.

Don't miss the Smithsonian complex down on the Mall. You can visit its African, Asian and Islamic art collections. I think it still has the exhibit on the Portuguese empire, too.

The 12th would probably be the best. The 17th we are in Baltimore and the 18th in Annapolis and then to the airport. Got tixs to the Capitol and Library of Congress. No White House unfortunately. I may try Eric and see if he has any connections.

According to my guidebook, there's the Admiral Fell Inn in Fell's Point. It looks pretty pricey, but it sounds really nice. The website is www.AdmiralFell.com. When I was in Baltimore last September, I think I stayed at the Wyndham Inner Harbor. Nothing special about it but it was pretty close to the waterfront.

You have to take Solidad to the Lexington Market for a crabcake sandwich. Their website is www.lexingtonmarket.com. You should also check to see if anything good is on display at the Walters Art Museum (www.thewalters.org). I think the Helmand is near there. It's an Afghan restaurant owned by Karzai's brother, so you know it has to be authentic (www.helmand.com).

I asked my folks about you guys coming over and having dinner at their apartment. They said they could do it the 12th, 17th, or 18th. Which date would work for you? Do you think Mark could join us?

No luck about parking near my folks. It looks like everything requires a pass unless you are a resident and have a parking sticker. I sent you the website with the rates at National Airport. Compare that with what your hotel charges. Alternatively, you might be able to park at one of the huge metro parking lots in some of the suburban metro stops like Franconia-Springfield (Blue line) or Huntington (Yellow line).

Any nice places to stay in Baltimore that you would recommend?

I mailed you a copy of Friday's Washington Post Weekend section which provides lots of info about clubs, shows, restaurants and activities in and around DC.

I also sent you the website for the parking rates at National Airport. I don't know where there would be good spots for open parking in DC. Probably nothing near a Metro.

I asked my dad about White House tours but he doesn't know of any these days, except for military folks.

Given what the weather is likely to be like, you guys should think about doing a lot of museums. You've got the National Portrait Gallery, the Corcoran, the Women's Museum, the Native American Indian museum, etc.

Also, shopping in Georgetown. Then you can stop for a coffee at Dean and DeLucca. There's also a nice European-style mod-cafe down there called Leopold's.

Also, Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan, and the area around Chinatown-Gallery Place has really come up in the last few years.

Before I forget, there's lots of shopping up in Friendship Heights. Bring your credit card.

If you go to Baltimore, take a water taxi from the harbor over to Fell's Point. That's a great way to see the city. And there are lots of bars and restaurants in Fell's Point.
