Walter:
Seriously, you shouldn't have bothered looking for
that DVD - my spoiled brother already had enough with
the plane and Civil-War canyon!
Anyway, no doubt our movie-junkie is going to be more
than happy and take it as a good wedding gift - he
will get married on May next year.
I hope you have included DC photos on the package, and
please let me know the DVD price and shipping cost to
pay you back.
It is good to hear you are fine, take care

Pepinot
15/11/2007

Pepinot:

I am glad that you are OK. I just saw photos of collasped buildings and smashed cars. Of course, the news report did not say where in Chile the photos were taken. I am doing OK. Just working here. Getting ready for the holidays - going to Oregon for Christmas to visit my family. FYI- I finally got a copy of the Horsemen DVD for your brother - so you should expect a package shortly. I hope that your family is well. Again, it is a relief that you are OK.

I'm fine, actually I didn't even feel it since I was
driving at that moment. Thanks for your concern.
How are you doing?

Pepinot

I saw the news this morning about the earthquake. It sounds very scary. I hope that you are OK. The news report said that it felt as far as Santiago.

Perhaps I do know.
I miss you a lot
I hope you are doing Ok on your new job and the wheather is getting nicer up there.
Here the spring has arrived, days are getting warmer and trees are blooming.
But I still miss you.

My Dear,

I love you.
Now I know.
I'd like for things to be so different... I'd like for us to have the chance to date, day to day, to clear up all our doubts, all the answer we keep asking ourselves, to increase the certainty we really belong each other.
I just don't know how we could do it, being apart for such a big distance.
I'm scared though.
So many things should happen for us to make a life together... but I cannot stop thinking how great it could be.

Anyway,

I still love you.

For how long? It is not for me to say

Walter:
I made it back OK, tired, but happy - best vacations
in long time.
My address is xxx.

As far as our future is concerned...
You are a boy smart enough to put the truth between the
lines. And I got all I needed to know.

For long time, as in fairy tales, I was expecting for
you to bring up the issue of us being together, but
you never did it. And suddenly without having planned,
I found myself brave enough to talk about it.
And I'm very proud of to have done my part of
the job - I didn't want to have the feeling that I
could have done something that I didn't -, running the
risk of being rejected.
And I think that that was what happened, and it's all
right. I think once I told you a lesson that I've just
learned while studying for the xxx Exam, just
facing the fact you might fail, you are ready to
succeed. And I really hope for one day to do so, as
far as this matter is concerned.
The fact is that I still love you - which I didn't
know till I saw you now - but you don't feel the same
way.
And you know what? It's fair enough to me.
Of course you wouldn't ever mean to hurt my feelings
by telling me the bare truth - that's the polite lawyer
in you -, which doesn't mean I'm not able to realize
about it.
I think one part of me will always love you, but
another part of me needs to left you behind, just as I
thought I had done it, and let life goes on.

I have shared some of the most precious momments of my
life with you, and I deeply thank you for all you have
truly gave me, which is more than many women have been
gifted with.

For next time, just remember that you are a man to
love, with all the generosity that real love can
inspire to the one who loves you.

Save these last words to you, wrap them up and put them
somewhere they don't disturb you, but where you can
give them a quick peek when needed.

Just Me

Hola Pepinot:

I hope that you made it back OK. I know that it was a long flight. I am missing you already. I need an address to send the movie, the photo CD, and an article of clothing you left behind. Regarding our future, I want to take a little time - think about the questions and answers that we both need to ask and have answered. I do care for you a great deal. I hope that you know that.

Love,
Walter

Heat? It's hard to belive after the big snow we just

snow here in Santiago - It hadn't happened in 25

Okay, let's make it the 12th with my folks in Cleveland Park. It'll have to be for lunch though because I just learned that my dad's flying out of town Monday. Will that work for you guys? I'll talk to them and get back to you with a time.

The Library of Congress is a nice idea. If I remember correctly, they have a neat cafeteria on their roof. So does the Kennedy Center. Also, I think the National Portrait Gallery is supposed to have some nice cafes.

If you spend the night downtown in Baltimore, take a water taxi across to Fell's Point for dinner. I like Bertha's. You should go there for a drink at least.

Have you thought about going to Mt. Vernon? You can take a boat there from the Alexandria waterfront. It'd also give you guys an excuse to come in and explore Old Town.

Don't miss the Smithsonian complex down on the Mall. You can visit its African, Asian and Islamic art collections. I think it still has the exhibit on the Portuguese empire, too.

The 12th would probably be the best. The 17th we are in Baltimore and the 18th in Annapolis and then to the airport. Got tixs to the Capitol and Library of Congress. No White House unfortunately. I may try Eric and see if he has any connections.

Walt:

According to my guidebook, there's the Admiral Fell Inn in Fell's Point. It looks pretty pricey, but it sounds really nice. The website is www.AdmiralFell.com. When I was in Baltimore last September, I think I stayed at the Wyndham Inner Harbor. Nothing special about it but it was pretty close to the waterfront.

You have to take Solidad to the Lexington Market for a crabcake sandwich. Their website is www.lexingtonmarket.com. You should also check to see if anything good is on display at the Walters Art Museum (www.thewalters.org). I think the Helmand is near there. It's an Afghan restaurant owned by Karzai's brother, so you know it has to be authentic (www.helmand.com).

I asked my folks about you guys coming over and having dinner at their apartment. They said they could do it the 12th, 17th, or 18th. Which date would work for you? Do you think Mark could join us?

No luck about parking near my folks. It looks like everything requires a pass unless you are a resident and have a parking sticker. I sent you the website with the rates at National Airport. Compare that with what your hotel charges. Alternatively, you might be able to park at one of the huge metro parking lots in some of the suburban metro stops like Franconia-Springfield (Blue line) or Huntington (Yellow line).

I mailed you a copy of Friday's Washington Post Weekend section which provides lots of info about clubs, shows, restaurants and activities in and around DC.

I also sent you the website for the parking rates at National Airport. I don't know where there would be good spots for open parking in DC. Probably nothing near a Metro.

I asked my dad about White House tours but he doesn't know of any these days, except for military folks.

Given what the weather is likely to be like, you guys should think about doing a lot of museums. You've got the National Portrait Gallery, the Corcoran, the Women's Museum, the Native American Indian museum, etc.

Also, shopping in Georgetown. Then you can stop for a coffee at Dean and DeLucca. There's also a nice European-style mod-cafe down there called Leopold's.

Also, Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan, and the area around Chinatown-Gallery Place has really come up in the last few years.

Before I forget, there's lots of shopping up in Friendship Heights. Bring your credit card.

If you go to Baltimore, take a water taxi from the harbor over to Fell's Point. That's a great way to see the city. And there are lots of bars and restaurants in Fell's Point.

Pepinot:

Claro que , I am planning to meet you at IAD. I cannot wait either. We will have a great time. I think that we will hit a quite few museums - air conditioning is good. The temperature will be 40C. Subject: DC Tours

Thank you for contacting Senator Chambliss’ office regarding your upcoming visit to Washington , D.C. We are glad you will be visiting and look forward to making this a fun and educational trip for you.

Unfortunately, the White House is full during the dates you wish to visit. I have kept your file open so that I can call you if anything opens up during the timeframe you’ll be in town. Due to the large volume of request The White House receives daily, they start accepting requests up to 6 months in advance so the more notice we have, the better the chances of getting in. Furthermore, school Spring Breaks and the summer months are our busiest tour season. I do encourage you to stop by the White House Visitor Center located at the southeast corner of 15th and E Streets.

I was happy to coordinate a VIP staff led Capitol tour on August 13th at 1:00 p.m. Please report to our office in room 416 of the Senate Russell Office Building , which is located at the intersection of Constitution and Delaware Avenues on Capitol Hill (across the street from the Capitol).

I was also able to coordinate a tour of the Library of Congress on August 14th at 8:30 a.m. Please enter the Thomas Jefferson Building ’s ground level carriage doors on First Street, SE . Please arrive a few minutes to allow for security check.

Below are some additional tours your group might enjoy:

George Washington's Mount Vernon is not only America 's most popular historic home - it is also the nation's oldest historic preservation project. Walk through the mansion and explore history firsthand. For more information and directions, please visit www.mountvernon.org. There is a food court for your group to have lunch.

The National Mall (in between Independence and Constitution Avenues). Here you can explore the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, WWII Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Korean War Memorial - a short walk to the left you will find the FDR and Jefferson Memorials as well as the tidal basin. *If you are interested in riding to the top of the Washington Monument , advance tickets are recommended. Follow this link to reserve your tickets (we cannot do that here. http://www.nps.gov/wamo/experience/experience.htm

The Smithsonian Museums are also located on the Mall. Further information can be found at www.smithsonian.org.

Union Station is a great stopping point for lunch as they have a wonderful food court, good restaurants and many shops.

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (also known as The Mint) is open to the public. The ticket booth is located on Raoul Wallenberg Place (formerly 15th Street ). They offer same day tickets only. The ticket booth opens at 8:00 a.m. - Monday through Friday, and closes when all tickets have been distributed. Lines form early and tickets go quickly, most days’ tickets are gone by 9:00 a.m. Please plan accordingly.

The Supreme Court is open Monday-Friday and offers group tours every hour on the hour. http://www.supremecourtus.gov/

The Spy Museum has been a hit since it opened a few years ago. Advance tickets are recommended as spring and summer are their heaviest tour season. You can by them online at ticketmaster.com or by phone at 800.551.SEAT. The Spy Museum is located at the corner of F and 9th Streets. Take Metro to Gallery Place / China Town (red line). More information can be found at www.spymuseum.org.

Finally, I highly recommend visiting Arlington Cemetery . http://www.arlingtoncemetery.org/

Hey Pepinot:

I will definitely bring a jacket. I am looking forward to it. I am so excited!!!! I should know something about the White House, Capitol tickets, next week. Also, Andrew's father is a well-connected dipolmat - so he may have some connections, too. Do you know when we are meeting Jess in Annapolis - sometime Saturday? I probably should make a reservation for Friday night in Annapolis and one near the airport for Saturday night - it will be an early morning to catch a 7am international flight - you will need to be there around 5 or earlier. Thursday night is still up in the air. Either Baltimore or maybe the Virginia countryside. Have fun with your parents and tell them I say hello.

Started around 8am - dealing with the Human Resources people - payroll, parking, etc. Then computer training followed by a group lunch, and then more training followed by reading a portion of civil rights litigation manual. challenging; I'm sure you will do great at this new
position!

On the other hand, well, I guess your bones were
right, and we will have now two reason for a big
celebration...

I passed the exam!!!

What a relief, I was so worried - Yesterday I thought
I wouldn't make it... and prepared myself to face the
fact of failing. As soon as I accepted it, I felt
relieved, in peace, as if it wouldn't be the big thing
if I didn't pass it, and I could try again next year.
So I slept very well last night and woke up very
relaxed this morning. The exam lasted four hours - a
little break in between -, five parts, three Schools
of xxx and several teachers.

Mom and Dad said they are proud of me, so my brother
and sister. So many people trusting you is a lot of
pression though - you are so worried to disappoint
them. It's funny how some people trust you so much
more than you trust yourself... Have you ever got that
feeling?

Well, tonight big celebration along Jess&Ale - she
started to scream on the phone when I gave her the
news!!! -. We will make a special toast to you.

Congratulations on your new job!!!
And get ready for DC.

A hug,

Pepinot

Hey Pepinot:

I just want to let you know that I am thinking about you today. I know that the test will go well for you. I feel it in my bones. Also, I got a job!!!! We will have something to celebrate in DC. I accepted a position with the Attorney General's office to work in their Civil Rights section. Bueno suerto.

Hola Sole:

The interview went well. I met with the Attorney General and the Deputy Attorney General and if they liked me - then I expect to get a job offer soon. They want me to work in the Civil Rights section - dealing with constitutional issues - which is an interesting and exciting area of law. I hope that the studying is going well. Just think you are almost done. I know that you will do great!

Hey Sole:

I had an interview with the State of Georgia's Attorney General's office this past Tuesday. It went very well. I have a second interview tomorrow and hopefully I will have a job offer by next week. Don't worry, however, I informed them that I had a friend from Chile coming to visit the US the week of August 12-17 and they told me that would be no problem. They understand that people make advanced plans that are hard to change. So, I will be there. Take care of yourself. Get plenty of sleep and exercise.

sure we'll have a great time even if they don't work

friends, or simply chilling out.
I've been so wrapped up in my stuffs that I haven't
even asked you how things are going with your job

something pop up at the last minute and you cannot
make it to DC, which would be wonderful on the other
hand... Perhaps the trip to DC can also be a good
opportunity for you to get in touch with your former
employers and contacts, and catch some interesting job

your own stuff while we are there!!!

Hey Sole:

I know what a pain the studying can be. I feel your pain. I shiver everytime I think about studying for the Bar exam. It was not the exam itself, but the stress and anxiety associated with the exam and the long hours of preparation. Annapolis/Baltimore is beautiful and would be a great place to meet Jess and the kids. FYI - I contacted my Senator's office and they are trying to arrange tours of the Capitol, White House, the FBI, the Bureau of Engraving. Having worked for a Senator's office, the White House tours can be difficult to get, but I will try my best.

Everything mentioned below sounds perfect - I have
heard that Mt. Vernon is a really nice place, and I'd
love to be able to get into the world-wide famous
White House. On the other hand, Jess is supposed
to be arriving along the kids around 17/18th to
Annapolis/Baltimore - she's not sure yet given the
hard task that means to drive with two toddlers, but
said that she LOVES Annapolis, so it got to be a
beautiful place if you both agree on that!
We have arranged to meet there instead for me to fly
up to Rhode Island since she also has another friend
who will be staying in Annapolis/Baltimore. I already
gave her our Hotel's directions so that she'll be able
to reach us whenever she can.
Walter, I'd wish I was on vacation now!!! I just spent
three days in a row studying 8 hours a day - I have
lost count on all the movies, dinners, parties,
birthday celebrations and trips that I have missed
because of the exam... Anyway, everything will be over
next Monday, I just hope for the result to be worth of
it.

Also I hope we can make it up in US.
I cannot tell you how excited I am about this upcoming
trip... I'm happy like a little girl!!!!

help, however, be assured that DC will be the opposite
- hot and humid in August. I talked to Andrew a
couple of nights ago and he helping me with ideas. A
ferry trip down to Mt. Vernon - to see the home of
George Washington, the new Museum of American
Indians, the National Gallery of Art, the Lincoln
Memorial, the Washington Monument - I think will keep
us busy. Also, I will check on tours of the White
House, the FBI, and the US Capitol. I don't know if
they discontinued those tours after 9/11 for security
reasons but I will check. Also, I am thinking a night
in Baltimore at the inner habor and a day trip to
Annapolis. As far as what you need to bring, just
your smiling, happy face is enough.

Also I've already booked five nights in Washington;

Also, I would like for us to share the costs -

Hola:

Thank you for the card. I had a good Fourth of July - hanging out by the pool and drinking beers with friends. We cooked hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill. A very American way to spend the holiday. We also watched some fireworks. I had a good time seeing my brother and his family. But I am paying for it. We went to the beach and I did not apply enough sunscreen and in only three hours - I got pretty burnt. Anyway, I hope that work and your studies are going well. I know that life has made it difficult to devote all the time you would have liked to your studies, but I know that it will be OK. I have to make a schedule - three hours a day to study and then I tell myself that I am doing all that I can do and the rest is in God's hands. Take care and I hope that you can make it up here. I would love to be tour guide.

Hi Walter,
The studying is going slow - In fact I'm starting to
get a little bit nervous -. Last weekend I had to
drive down to Chimbarongo because of a belated
Father's day and my mother's birthday... no studying
nor skiing at all!!! so I'm trying to catch up
schedule by leaving early from work, which is even
harder given the lots of things going on here.
Anyway, this weekend will be long - Monday is Holiday
here - so I'm taking off to Valparaiso early Friday
since my parents are coming to Santiago to do some
medical check outs, otherwise I will lose another
weekend hanging out with them.
I'll be staying close to Pablo Neruda's house - La
Sebastiana -, taking a break from the cold Santiago,
and trying to make some progress!
I hope you'll have a nice time along with your family
- North Carolina is beautiful, I always remember our
visit to the breathtaking Appalachians.

How are you doing? How is the studying going? I know you must be looking forward to getting the exam behind you. Did you go skiing this past weekend? I am heading up to NC to see my brother and his family for a couple of days. They are in from Oregon visiting my sister-in-law's parents. I think Friday - we will hit the beach. Otherwise, nothing new to report. Take care and let me know your plans when you can.

I sorry to hear about your cold. Out late being a party animal will take its toll. However, it sounds like that you are feeling better. But, at least you were able to do some studying. Take care of yourself so you can make your ski trip. As for me, things are OK. I finally heard from a headhunter and a firm wants to interview me. So, a ray of light. I am trying to stay positive. I am running a lot. I do about 5 miles a day. I figure that I can use this time to become healthier. There is a saying in English - when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Sorry for being out of touch for so long, but I've
just got back to work since I had to spend 4 days in
bed because of a very bad cold that I catched... I
wasn't even able to speak!!!
It was my fault though - I was partying under the rain
until very late wednesday night along a friend that
just came back from Spain, so I deserved it.
I feel much better now, although it was very nice
staying warm at home, drinking lemon juice with honey,
looking out the window to the rain and snow on the
mountains - I cannot wait for a good skiing next
weekend!!!
Also I had the chance to have a good study, so things
are going just as planned.
Next week is Jen and Max's birthday, so we'll have a
huge party before they leave to the States on July

Now, I'm catching up with tons of work and problems

If you can make it to Washington DC, I would love to be your tour guide. I am sure the place has changed some since I lived there, but I still know the city pretty well. As for Andrew not remembering you, that is impossible. I know that he would love to see you as well. Forgetting you would be like forgetting a sunset over the Andes or the first time you see the fog lifting from the Golden Gate bridge. There are some things and people who you never forget. So, don't worry about that. As for me, I am doing OK. I hope to have some interviews in the near future. Law firms and government agencies are taking longer to get back to me than expected, but I tell myself patience, Walter, patience. I am glad that your friends really liked my hometown. are doing well and we just won a Gold Medal in a very
important wine contest in London, so things are

Patricia and her husband are super happy with Javiera,

had a lot of fun there; Ale already got his green
card so they both also had interviews for job hunting in

week of August with the kids, and she invited me to

also take advantage of visiting Boston and perhaps
Washington if I have the chance. I still have no firm
plans for vacations so I'm wide open to any proposal.

I hope everything is well with you. Thanks for the words of encouragement. It is frustrating - I like being productive and working. As for the Foreign Service, I am planning to take the exam this summer. The State Department is revising the exam and they expect to have it ready by July. I took the written exam a couple of times back in the 90s, but then they would cancel the oral examination because of the budgetary woes - so for a couple of years, they were not hiring. But now is a different story. Anyway, I hope that you can escape the dreary smoggy winter days of Santiago. Maybe a ski weekend in the mountains? P.S. Dear Walter,
I know how frustrating the process can be - I had to
wait a LONG time for my current job to happen. I do
remember so many times when I thought I was this close
and finally nothing happened...
January and February 2006 where very bad months for
me, even if I already had a job at that time, I was so
bored and sick of it that I was ready to leave to
Spain in September. Suddenly, the opportunity appeared
out of the blue - I already had the tickets booked and
the arrangements done -, and in less than a month it
turned up in a solid offer, and... here I am.

Have you ever thought of working in something related
to International Relations? As far as I can remember,
you got a degree in Chicago that might as well allow
you to make a try in Foreign Service
(http://www.careers.state.gov/), thinking that you
also love traveling and getting to know other
cultures. I'm sure that it must be many job openings
at US embassies and consulates all over the world -
One of my best customs is US Embassy in Santiago and
I'm meeting all the time new officers that apply to
Chile and to other countries: lawyers, journalists,
engineers, etc. Anyway, just for you to consider.

Please don't get down if things don't work out as fast
as expected... try to take advantage of your time
meanwhile, and cheer up yourself thinking of something
that you really want as a reward once you finally get
it! This last always works for me.

A big hug,

Pepinot

Sorry that the trip to Quito did not work out. But, that is great news regarding Patricia! I know that you must be happy. Spring is in full bloom here with plenty of sunshine and the daytime temperature in the 70s and 80s. The job hunting is frustrating. I have no patience. A friend told me that this experience could maybe teach me some. Anyway, the exercising is working. Lost 12 pounds - so that is good. Other than that, not much going on. How about you? Are you planning your winter getaway? Going skiing or do you have bigger plans? Europe? Cuba? Atlanta? You know that you are always welcomed.

the trip to Ecuador didn't work out since my mother

On the other hand, I'm so happy because my friend

baby girl - her name is Javiera. It is as if life had

Fall has arrived, and Santiago is gray, cold and
polluted. Public transportation - Transantiago, a new
model that government is trying to set up with little
success - is an epic mess. People is stressed out and
angry; everybody complaining everyday everywhere...
How is exercising doing? did the spring finally arrive

Hey there Pepinot:

That is so exciting! I have not been to Ecuador, but my mother and father visited and stayed in Quito several times in the early 90s. He was consulting for the UN. I will ask my mother about Quito and the sights near the city. If remember correctly, they really liked it. It is high up and sunny, but has some bad air pollution- at least back then. They stayed in a little B&B run by a family whose owner - I think - was a former mayor of Quito. I willl ask my mom about it and see if she has any suggestions. There is also the Galapogos Islands - I think I spelled it correctly - off the coast but that takes a few days and I think is a little expensive. Anyway, I am doing well. Hopefully, will have a few interviews this week. Take care.

Walter,
Exercising is always a good idea since it clears up
your mind and get your body tired, just ready for a
good sleep. Things are slowing down here, but not much
since my parents and I have been invited to a wedding
in Ecuador in June 2nd. I don't think my father will
be able to make it, so I'm planning the trip along my
mother, just the two of us!!! I'm so excited because
she's a super good partner for traveling and we always
have lots of fun together. This will be my first time
in Ecuador - Have you ever been there? is it really
worth visiting? -, so I'm looking up for all sort of
information about Quito, where the wedding will take
place, and places to visit.
I'll be crossing my fingers for you to get your job

I know. That is why I picked Solitude - although I know that you prefer xxx - since you are sunny, warm person - but I think Solitude fits the poem better. As far as global warming goes , I hear that a lot of growers in Napa and the rest of CA are nervous. Maybe Oregon and Washington will become the new California. When I visited the family out in Oregon last Christmas, I tried some very nice Pinot Noir wines. In the future, if the climate keeps warming, they might be producing Cabernet. I hope not. I guess the growers in Chile are worried about the same thing. Puerto Montt as the capital of Chilean wine making does not seem right to me.

Walter,

My day is going well so far, although it got started late because last night I had the launching of our xxx on one of my distributor's stores... It went through to VERY late, but the audience was great and the catering was superb. xxx - the owner - and xxx - general manager and my boss - were very happy with my job and I had a good deal of journalist and PR people to handle some interesting articles. BUT I need to have some relax now so tonight I'm going to the theater and have dinner with a friend.

So sorry about your mother's flight... it seems like the weather is changing all around the world. You'll see, here the fall is coming but to me it's the season of the year I do like the most - not too hot, no too cold, nice to walk in the evening. All the people is back to the city and there are one million things to do everywhere - I had no vacations because I worked all the summer, but it's ok since I'm saving my days off for a nice three-weeks trip to Europe or a short one to Cuba during my winter or sooner. In the meantime just short trips nearby Santiago or some quick getaway to the south.

Coming to the subject of weather, let me tell you something funny... many people here in Chile are concerned about global warming, so they invited to Al Gore to come for a lecture with enormous publicity and advertisements. Well, the thing is that he looks to me A LOT like you!!! of course much older, but still, there is something in on his eye's expression, his smile... anyway.

Any new about job-hunting? Try not to get anxious and hopefully try to take some days for relaxing before getting started at your new position. I didn't take any rest before getting started on this job and sometimes I feel a little stressed out.

I like "Solitude" as a name for the poem, very alike my own name actually - just try not to get trapped too long in a feeling like that. You know it already has my blessing.

A hug,

Pepinot

Hey Pepinot:

I hope your day is going well. I am finally settling back down to work. My mom flight was cancelled yesterday evening so we had to rebook her -which of course took 2 hours, and her fight was again delayed this morning - what a mess!. April is suppose to be springtime here yet there is snow in Chicago and throughout the Midwest. Anyway, I interested in hearing about the Salmon a la Sole. The Chilean gourmet - sounds like a cable TV show for the Food Network. Actually, that is not a bad idea - a TV show with you as the host - exploring Chilean wines - would be an excellent marketing tool.

The Los Vacos wine I found in the DeKalb Farmer's Market which is a huge warehouse with food from all over the world. It combines two of my passions - food and travel. They actually have a lot of Chilean produce and a decent selection of Chilean wines - However, they do sell the infamous Gato Negro as well. The Los Vacos wine was a 2005 Cabernet and I paired it with lamb chops and mint sauce. It was a good pairing. Generally, in the local supermarkets - all you get is Cocha y Toro wines. You have to go a speciality shops to find other Chilean wines - however, I have not found Montes in any of the shops.

I am glad you liked the poem. I was a little nervous sending it to you because it is obviously very personal and intimate. But, I really like it and thought that you would like it too. I have thought about entering it into a contest - under the name "Solitude" but I would do so only with your blessing - because it is really your poem.

Un beso grande,

Walter

My winemaker

Somewhere far away lies a quiet Patagonian forest
The rivers running wild like your windswept hair
The meadows sparkling in the sunlight jumping with delight, reminding me of the times we danced
The mountains ever so majestic, bold and curvaceous as the times I held you
To see the beauty that is you - how I long for it
But like that forest you are miles away.
Did I dream you? You were ever real?
Miracles like you simply do not happen to mere mortals like me

And now all I have is memories.
Left to imagine the wind playing with the meadow grasses much the same way as I used to play with your dark raven hair
If I linger long enough, I can almost taste the breeze that is you

Walter,

I don't feel like a sophisticated or cosmopolitan woman at all... my life is getting more simple as time goes by, although I do feel very well with the way things are doing for me lately.
You're right, living with my siblings - specially with my sister - has been everything but easy. I've been thinking several times on getting a place for my own, but I'd also like to think on this situation as a good opportunity to improve my relationship with them, which has never been easy at all. I think it is time to make it and they worth the effort, so I just try to put 100% of my good will on it.

I ate a whole salmon by my own (during the weekend, of course) and I even invented a new salmon recipe: Salmon a la Sole! I cooked it on the oven, with onion, red pepper and apple, topped with a sauce made of cheese, soy and lemon juice, plus two secret ingredients... suuuuper tasty! That's the new me: Sole Gourmet.

Los Vascos wine? a very good chilean choice! Where did you get it? Red or White? What was the food-matching? Los Vascos Sauvignon Blanc 2006 is MY FAVORITE chilean Sauvignon Blanc! As for xxx wines, I'm afraid there is no way they can be bought in US because of a contract with an american partner that forbid us to introduce our brand in US - so that he produces his own brand xxx in xxx Winery's facilities and sell it at the US.

By the way, I haven't told you how much I liked your poem - I printed and stuck it on the wall beside my pc-screen, although it made me blush when I first read it, and it still does it sometimes. Thanks, that was very thoughtful of you.

A kiss,

Sole

Hey Pepinot:

Your mother is right - that does sound like the perfect job for you. That is awesome!!!! It sounds challenging yet fun. I know that you like dealing with people, arranging events, but it also sounds like you are learning a lot about business side of the wine business. It does sound tiring, but you have a nice abundance of energy. Also, I got your Easter card, thank you if was very sweet. I hope that you enjoyed all the fresh salmon from Puerto Montt that you could eat. It must be nice to living in Santiago, I remember Las Condes - it is very nice for sophisticated, cosmopolitan woman like yourself. So, you are happier now that you have your own space. I hope that your sister and you are getting along - siblings can the best roommates or the worse. I had a nice bottle of Los Vacos for Easter dinner and thought of you. Is the xxx brand available in the United States?

A hug and a kiss,

Walter

Hello,

Well, I do remember that you told me once that teaching is one of the things you enjoy the most, besides the fact that you are really skillful at teaching and explaining things - I learned a lot from you about many interesting things during our trips. I really hope for everything to work out to your satisfaction.

As far as I am concerned, my current job is very exiting and interesting. Basically I am in charge of domestic sales and brand managing over xxx, which means that I must visit and train staff from all the best hotels and restaurants in Santiago, 5th region (Viña del Mar - Valparaíso), La Serena and recently, the Southern Chile. Also I must attend to wine fairs and support my distributor in number of activities, dinners and charity, arts and cultural events. Also I have to deal with advertising and publicity in magazines and news papers, and a lot of PR with sommeliers, chef and specialized journalists; developing wine tasting; special dinners for VIP customers, embassies (US among them!) and restaurant's owners, and organizing visits to the Winery's Hotel in xxx (xxx).
I'm really enjoying this job, but as you can see, it can be very demanding and stressful, since you must accomplish sales/brand goals every month, which also is very challenging!
According to Mom, just the perfect job to me.

I rented an appartment along my siblings - since my sister is studying her third carrer and my brother has his girlfriend in town - in the East side of Santiago - Las Condes; it's a nice neighborhood with lot of trees on the streets.

Did you get my Easter e-card? I hope you have had a nice holiday.

A big hug,

Pepinot

Hola:

Well, I am looking at a couple of different options. I had have interviews with the School of Government at UNC-CH for a research/teaching position, AIG for an in-house business counsel position. Rob wants to me to move Sacramento. So, I am looking at taking the California Bar exam - I have to look into it more. I would need to have a job lined up before I would move cross country. I am trying to focus on finding that I enjoy doing. I like my current position - the people here are nice and the work is fairly interesting, but the higher-ups decided several years back to limit these positions to two-year terms. The government position like this one have a better lifestyle - don't have to work too many late night or weekends, but the downside is that you make much less money. But that is life - tradeoffs and compromises. Dinner was OK last night, mom and I had Mexican just down hill from my apartment. I am still living in Vinnings - the same place when you came in October 2005. I told Mark about tu broma - he replied April's Fools one day late. How about your job? Everything OK? As far as the poetry goes, here is one for my muse. I hope you have a wonderful Easter.

A big hug and big kiss

Dear Mr.Walter,

Sorry again about the joke!
About your words on the first e-mail, please don't feel silly - I'd love to read some of your poems if you want me to.
Time has gone by, and there is no reason - at least for my side - to keep myself from hearing of a good old friend.

So are you doing job-hunting? I'm sure you'll figure that out very easily. What do you have in mind? Staying in Atlanta, working for the government? Or would you like to move to another state, to a different job? In any of both cases, I hope you will find something you really like to work at. It is a very pleasant feeeling that to work in something you really like and feel you were born to, just like in my case now.

How was dinner last night? I hope you have had a good one along your mother. I'm planning Eastern Eve along my family in xxx; Mom spent last week in the souther city of Puerto Montt so I asked her to bring as many salmons as possible, and she did so - I cannot wait to cook and eat them all !!!

Have a sweet happy Eastern!

A hug,

Pepinot

Dear Ms Pepinot:

You got me good - REAL good. I was feeling rather silly - given my earlier e-mail - but hey everything I said was true. I was worried that a very angry husband was flying to Atlanta. Those Latin men have a reputation for being jealous. Una broma muy muy mala. But you know that I forgive you - I can never stay angry with you. My mother is OK - I am heading home in a few minutes and we are heading out to grab some dinner. We do have a lot of catching up and I am looking forward to it. Don't worry - I will keep in touch.

Un beso grande - tu amigo

Walter:
I'm afraid I won't be able to send you pictures of my twins because... there are not twins nor husband... I was kidding!!!
I'm so super sorry but I couldn't keep myself from making a litte joke!!!

Who is about to have her first baby is P - C's sister - and also Jess had another baby boy - G - super cute and super different from M.
How is your mother doing? I still remember her, she was extremely kind with me when we first met in Atlanta, and I liked her a lot.
My parents also are driving us nuts since none of us has gotten married nor had babies yet, but I'm afraid that my brother is about to save us that problem soon since he's been dating for over a year and things are getting serious this time - I hope so!

It has been a long time - a lot to catch up to.

Keep in touch (and please forgive my joke!!!!)

A hug,

Pepinot

Hey Sole:

Wow!!!!!!! Married and twins!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!! I guess you are right - things do eventually fall into place. As for me, I am not married - still looking. And no babies. My brother and sister-in-law are doing OK and so are my nephews. My mom is in town visiting me - so she is driving me a little bit crazy - but that is nothing new.

When did you get married? What is your husband and children's names. Two boys, two girls, one of each? How old are your children? I bet that your father and mother are overjoyed. Having two little grandchildren to play with and spoil. I must admit it is a little bittersweet for me for you will always have a special place in my heart. But, I am truly happy for you that you have everything you want. I guess all of your family and friends are OK? I would love to see pictures of your twins.

Your friend,

Walter

Hi!
I'm verry sorry about Mark's dad - I know you will be an excelent support to him since you already passed through such a strong experience...
Well, where do I start from?... Finally I've got my dreamed job at the commercial side of business. I'm xxx for xxx at..., a small xxx-based winery, which means that I had to move to Santiago, with all that such a challenge means. Actually that was last year but I'm STILL moving stuff from xxx, can you believe that? How can that be possible????
I'm proud to say that I am becoming in an excelent housekeeper and chef - since I had no choice - and I've managed to organize my life pretty well here.

Everybody around is doing well, and please don't think about yourself as a unfair person - you made your choices and that was fair enough to me. It gave me the chance to meet my current husband and give born to two beautiful baby twins. Life is beautiful.

What about you? Are you married yet? babies?

Let me know.

A hug,

Pepinot

Hola Pepinot:

It is great to hearing from you!!!!!!! I am doing OK. I am busy working here at the court, but I am also job-hunting since my term ends at the end of April. Very stressful. Some sad news to report - Mark's dad died last Friday. So, I have been talking to him a lot, trying to help him through this tough time.

I am glad that you are in Santiago. I know that you wanted to be there. Are you working there? How is your family? How is the rest of the gang? Are you married? I must confess that I think about you often - wondering how you are doing - hoping that you are happy. Looking up at the calendar - and seeing that it is March 1st and your birthday. Listening to your CDs. I will admit it, I miss you. I hope that you do not think that I am being unfair. There many times I wanted to e-mail you, but I did not what to say. I know it sounds a little crazy, the man of many words speechless. I also thought that you may have wanted to move on and that me contacting you would be unfair. At least, you will be happy to know that you inspired some very good poetry. I am not saying that I am Pablo Neruda, but I think that it is good and that what matters, right? Anyway, I have really missed talking to you, e-mailing you. Please keep in touch.

Un beso grande

Hey...
I've just moved to Santiago and while organizing tons of suffs, I found some pictures of you in California 2005.
As I don't believe in coincidences, I guess it's time for me to know how you are doing.

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

I can write the saddest lines tonight

Write for example: ‘The night is starry
and they shiver, blue, those stars, in the distance’

The night wind turns in the sky and sings

I can write the saddest lines tonight
I loved him, sometimes he loved me too

On nights like these he held me in his arms
He kissed me greatly under the infinite sky

He loved me, sometimes I loved him too
How could I not have loved his huge, still eyes

I can write the saddest lines tonight
To think I don’t have him, to feel I have lost him

Hear the vast night, vaster without him
Lines fall on the soul like dew on the grass

What does it matter that I couldn’t keep him
The night is starry and he is not with me

That is all. Someone sings far off. Far off,
my soul is not content to have lost him

As though to reach him, my sight looks for him
My heart looks for him: he is not with me

The same night whitens, in the same branches
We, from that time, we are not the same

I don’t love him, that’s certain, but how I loved him
My voice searched for the breeze to reach his ear

Another’s kisses on him, like of mine he used to be
His voice, his bright body, his infinite eyes

I don’t love him, that’s certain, but perhaps I love him
Love is so brief and forgetting lasts so long

Since, on these nights, he held me in his arms,
my soul is not content to have lost him

Though this is the last pain he will make me suffer,
and these are the last lines I will write for him.

I hope you've noticed your time is almost up.

I've taken off for vacations - as I told you that day -, but it seems to have been pointless so far. Nothing I was expecting for has happened as planned. Nothing at all... so far.
But at least it's good to be out of the office and stop checking mails every morning, with the hope to hear from you.
As you told me once, I thought I was over you. In fact, that seemed quite possible just one month ago.
But things didn't happened as planned. They never do, actually. And I'm getting sick of it.

My mind is so full of so many questions with no answers...

How are you?

Where are you?

Who are you with?

Do you ever miss me?
Do you ever think of me?
Do you remember our deal?
Do you still care about it?
Did you ever care about it?

Will you let our feeling die?

Will you let me behind?
Have you already let me behind?

Do you ever take a look at our pictures?
Do you ever listen our music?
Do you still recall my face, my voice?

Does the feel of my skin remain in your touch?
Does the print of my lips still lie on yours?

Did the smell of my hair blow away from your nose?
Did your chest forget the weight of my head?
Did your tongue lose the memories of the taste of me?
Did your body forget its perfect fit over mine?

Did I ever mean anything for you?
Perhaps this is the only question whose answer I've always known.

But, still

Too many questions without answers.
And we are running out of time.

But I don't want to let you go. I just can't.
I don't want to miss you (either).
I still need you
I still love you
More than ever
Please, I set you free once.
And you came back to me, as I knew you would.
Because I knew you'd become the man I wanted you to be.
And then again, I've set you free for the second time.
Because I wanted for you to release your soul, freely...
Can you understand?
I did because I loved you and I wanted for you to be happy.
I wanted for you to realize where your happiness were, and I wanted for you to realize it was
with me
I wanted for your free will to make the decision of being together, not just agree with me to please me, as you've always have done.

was I right?

Now, come back to me
I couldn't have been so wrong.
We belong each other, as you said once.

Otherwise,
You will love me forever anyway
but alone
